In the summer of 2024, my friend Torge and I participated in the Summer of Math Exposition Pi edition. This is a math explainer contest. We used the awesome Manim CE library to explain E. F. Codd's relational model. This model, first published in the 1970s, is the precursor to SQL. E. F. Codd's work, while it isn't as well-known as SQL, was hugely influential. We explored the model and its mathematical query languages, relational algebra and relational calculus.
